KATY PERRY- Vocal Profile

Vocal Type: Mezzo- Soprano
Vocal Range: 3 Octaves, 2 Notes
Highest Note: C6
Highest Belt: G5
Lowest Note: D3
Voice Analysis- Technical Aspects:
Range:
Surprisingly wide vocal range. A well connected voice-- the voice easily transcends from chest to head-- a technique she often relies on in many of her songs.

Tone:
The chest notes are dark and warm. The upper chest notes sound nasally and solid. The head voice is airy and warm.

Power/ Belt Quality:
Well-supported, well placed belts. However, the voice is too nasal and thin-- suggesting that she does not keep an open throat to add depth and thickness to the tone.

Melisma:
Capable of using this skill correctly occasionally. Usually, melismas live (her recorded songs usually do not have any melodic embellishments) are messy, off pitch and undefined.

Pitch:
Pitch live isn't great. Usually goes off key.

In a Nutshell...
Positives:
Unique tone, powerful, solid and resonant belts. Well-connected voice.

Negatives:
Messy melismas live. The quality of her belts always vary.  Sometimes powerful, sometimes forced. Often becomes off-key live. Basically, the standard of her performances (vocally) usually do not meet the vocal level of studio recordings.
