MARIAH CAREY- Vocal Range

Vocal Type: Light-Lyric Soprano
Vocal Range: 5 Octaves 4 Notes
Highest Note: B7
Highest Belt: A5
Lowest Note: Eb2

Voice Analysis- Technical Aspects:
Range:
Well-connected voice with quick transitions from chest to head voice. SUPER wide vocal range.

Tone:
Smokey, airy low notes. The midrange is solid and bright. The belting range is clear, fluid and bright. As it is mixed with the head voice, it loses vocal weight and thins. The whistle register can be slightly airy or bright and piercing, being truly impressive.

Power/ Belt-Quality:
Belts are elastic and effortless, resonating in the mask and of healthy technique. Though projected, they lack edginess and power.

Melisma:
She is THE queen of melisma, and people don't say that for no reason. Not only does she execute runs precisely, cleanly and flexibly, she can riff in major and minor scales, or even in Jazz. Thus, her voice transcends through multiple genres.

Pitch:
Excellent pitch. However, in recent performances, she tends to skip many of the high notes. She seems less comfortable in the whistle register.

In A Nutshell...
Positives:
Technically a brilliant singer. Expert control over her instument. She has vocal dynamics that can be unparalled by none--- able to go from soft an airy, to bright and belty in no time at all. Able to add emotion in her voice by utilizing vocal cracks, which are achieved via healthy technique.  She can modify the timbre of her head voice and whistle register. Sometimes it can be airy, sometimes bright and piercing.

Negatives:
Lower notes are sometimes achieved via unhealthy technique. Some say that she has declined vocally, as seen when contrasting her live performances now with those of in the past.

LADY GAGA- Vocal Profile

Vocal Type: Mezzo-Soprano
Vocal Range: 3 Octaves 3 Notes
Highest Note: C6
Highest Belt:  G5
Lowest Note: F#2

Voice Analysis- Technical Aspects:
Range:
Wide vocal range. The head voice sounds disconnected from the rest of the voice, with her rarely using head voice live.

Tone:
Weighty and well-rounded, Lady Gaga's tone is technically brilliant and appealing to many as her voice can sing multiple genres exceptionally- Pop, Rock, Jazz. The lower notes are thick and the voice carries the vocal weight to even the upper belts. Stunning vibrato.

Power/ Belt-Quality:
Well supported, well placed powerful belts. Live performances show how much stamina she has in her belts-- capable of firing belt after belt as her voice brims with resonance, passionate and power. A top echelon belter. However, upper belts sound coarse and unhealthy, lacking clarity and are extremely unstable.

Melisma:
Capable of singing melisma, however her pop anthems rarely require melismas.

Pitch:
She used to go off key when dancing. However, now she is usually on pitch even when dancing, indicating that she has improved tremendously in terms of vocal support and stamina.

In a Nutshell...
Positives:
Powerful, belts. The voice can uniquely mimic a talking voice. The unique diction and phrasing of the voice lets it convey an array of emotions. Overall, a great technical singer with proper training and a stunning, rolling vibrato.

Negatives:
Upper (chest-dragged) belts are coarse, unstable and lack clarity, as she rarely mixes. The head voice is underused.

CHRISTINA AGUILERA- Vocal Profile

Vocal Type: Mezzo-Soprano
Vocal Range: 4 Octaves
Highest Note: C7
Highest Belt: G5
Lowest Note: Bb2

Voice Analysis- Technical Aspects:
Range:
Wide vocal range, and a well connected voice that can easily transcends from chest to head. Capable of singing in the whistle register by using her falsetto to imitate whistle tones.

Tone:
Full and beautiful. However, Christina tends to purposely lower the larynx when singing, making the voice much heavier than it would normally be. Good vibrato.

Belt-Quality/Power:
Belts are well-supported and well-placed. However, as she tends to chest-drag to the extent that she is literally shouting, she tends to clunk heavily in the chest voice, causing her voice to have a coarseness in the upper belted notes.

Melisma:
Expert at executing runs with flexibilty, phrasing and accuracy. However, her runs lack musicality especially when she oversings and embellishes almost the entire song.

Pitch:
Good pitch live.

In a Nutshell...
Positives:
Thick, velvety tone that is heavy and powerful. Fast melismas that are executed cleanly. The voice is full of soul throughout the range. One of the most naturally gifted singers.

Negatives:
Unhealthy technique used when belting, causing her voice to be unable to belt a high note without it producing an unpleasant noise. She chest drags too much, almost in every performance the moment she belts. Please develop and use a healthy chest-dominant mix. Her runs are overused and lack musicality. Some say that her whistle notes are too breathy and not piercing enough to be considered whistle tones and is a falsetto instead.
