Voice Analysis-Technical Aspects
Range:
With Ariana's range being 4 octaves, it is a simple fact that she has a wide range that is decent working. She can easily excess any part of the range- chest, mixed voice, head voice and whistle register, having utmost control over her voice like it is an instrument.

Tone:
Being thick, full and velvety, Ariana's tone is a technical masterpiece and is truly soothing to the ear. Her chest voice sounds full but when mixed (in the belting range) it lightens quickly and has a nasality to it. Her head voice is light, piercing and bright, most likely due to brilliant placement of the voice in "the mask". Her whistle register is bright and piercing, sounding clear and distinct.

Belt-Quality/Power:
Ariana's belts are healthy, being mixed with the head voice. This makes her belts elastic, bright and light. They seem well-placed. However, due to the lightness of the tone, her belts may have the impression of being too thin and nasal to be considered "powerful" like Demi's belts or Adele's belts. Additionally, her belts are not well-supported and can be seen as shouting.

Melisma:
Having expert control over her voice, Ariana is capable of executing fast. complex riffs with ease and flexibilty. Her riffs are literally 99% pitch perfect. However, Ariana tends to oversing and overuse this technique, especially in live performances when she just riffs over the backing track.

Pitch:
Excellent pitch, being pitch perfect for almost every note in most of her performances.

In a Nutshell...
Positives:
Elastic, healthy belts that are mixed with her head voice. Complex melisma can be sung with ease in all registers, even in the whistle register, through expert control of her voice. Low notes and her chest voice sound full and healthy. Technically, an extremely gifted singer.

Negatives:
Her mixed belts sound too "heady". This means she mixes too much head voice in her belts, thus causing them to lack power. She should try a chest-dominant mix when belting. Her voice lacks emotion overall and her lyrics are hard to understand due to poor diction and pronunciations of vowels when singing.

Additional Notes:
Due to her mastery over the whistle register, some have dubbed her "the next Mariah".

  1. She has not mastered the whistle register she has merely hit notes in it.
